You only need 3 things - A Candle stick (mines from IKEA), a pretty plate and some hot glue.

Goodbye 2011

Another year done and dusted... so without sounding like a broken record, it really is scary how fast they are flying. 2011, was an extremlly busy one for us with the arrival of Little Miss Evie (or shescreamsalot - as I like to call her) but it was also a great one. I feel fortunate to have such a wonderfully supportive hubby (most of the time) and that we are all happy and healthy.

Louise starts Kinder in 2012 so its a big year for her and somehow I managed to sign myself up as the President for Kinder parent committee ~ so both of us will be stepping into unfamiliar territory. I will need to remember how to chair meetings and speak to adults professionally again
~ this has me slightly worried.

Evie will turn 1 in April, so I really do want to soak up as much baby as she has left and I also look forward to spending time with just her when Lou is at Kindy.

Its quite possible the hubby has a job move this year so I really want to remember to be there for him. Its so easy to forget that when your busy chasing kids around.

We meet an number of special little babies early in the year and I really want to wish their safe arrival and can't wait to soak up a bit of newborn again.

I so want to step up the exercise routine in 2012 - being fit and healthy for my family is a priorty this year!!! Do. not. slack. off. Linda....!! You know how good it makes you feel and is an excellent example for your girls (a bit of creche did wonders for Lou ~ Evie will eventually like it too). I may even become accountable to it via this blog - if I can get the courage.

On that note, naptime for the girls is just about over and I need to add a heap if whipped cream goodness to the most awesome Mocha Cheescake Slice for our little get together we are having tonight. So, whatever you are doing or wherever you are tonight, I hope its a good one.

It went to a lovely mumma blogger that I had stumbled on before - Her name is Sonia and blogs at LionessLady. A quick Thank you to Tania from Chicken Ink for russling up a beautiful notebook for me to give her.

I got sent a beauifully wrapped package last week and vowed to save it till Christmas - well that didn't even last the day and before I knew it I was hanging my lanterns and stamping my new mail stamps all over previously wrapped presents. Yay! Finally put together Louise's teacher presents. I really wanted them to be special this year as Lou is moving on to big girl kinder next year, she has also finshed up at her dancing class which she has just adored this year, so lots of sad goodbyes coming soon.

A fairy party...

Well its taken me all week to start this post and a few bloggy friends have asked how Louise's party went so though I had better get moving. It ended up being quite an event and once again there never seems enough time to take any decent photos so this is the best of the lot.
I love entertaining and really at the moment the kids birthdays are the only excuse I really have. Louise and I made all the decorations and boy was it fun setting up her fairy princess kingdom.
I am still sweeping up rogue glitter 8 days later. She said it was her best day ever so it was probably all worth it.

Of course I didn't do it all by myself and wanted to take this opportunity to thank some amazing businesses out there in the handmade community.

First off the fabulosly tallented Cathie from Melbourne Epicure for making the beautiful fairy cake topper and cupcake fondant toppers. Thank you so much - Lou is in awe of her fairy and is most treasured. I'm so sorry I didn't do it justice by making a cake to match - Lou really really wanted icecream cake for the day so icecream cake it was.
Also, I got the scalloped circles I used in the decorating from A Scrap of Paper on Craftumi - Kerri was very helpful and I practically had my custom order the next next day.

I found Party Hire for Kids on facebook - Sue did an amazing job on the balloons she delivered and it was great to be able to have child sized table and chairs.

A friend of mine has recently started up a fantastic handmade sweets business with her friend and I was dying to have an excuse to order something.

Susie made me a custom order of the MOST delicious pinwheel cookies ever. Seriously the hubby and I actually fought over the last one left. You must check out their facebook page. The cakes they have been making are stunning - but you can order anything from a multi leveled ruffle cakes, cupcakes and gorgeous petit fours. I wish I had ordered more!

Louise was lucky enough to have a very special visitor by the name of "Ms. Fairy Floss" all the way from Fairy land, attend her day ~ she really was remarkable. Lou got a beautiful letter in the mail from her a few days before the party and her facepainting skills were wonderful. Having an entertainer for the 20+ kids was the best idea ever and really took the pressure off. It was so nice to actually have a bit of time to enjoy the day.

Also thank you to Louise's lovely Aunties, Nonna and friends that helped her mum on the day too.

Chicken {Heart} Pie

Now that I have some of my cooking mojo back, I thought that I would post
some of my tried and tested favourite meals.
(with both pregnancies I totally lost the ability to cook - it was either burn't or tasteless)

I make this when I want to cook something yummy but can't be

bothered going to a lot of trouble. Enjoy!

6-8 Chicken Tendeloins (organic if possible) cubed

~I like tendelions because they are not as dry as the breast but easier to cut than the thigh~

1 packet of short cut bacon cut into small pieces

1 leek sliced thin

8 Mushrooms sliced or more if you like them lots like we do

1 Big handful of baby spinach

250gram light sour cream

2 teaspoons Djion Mustard

1 teaspoon Seeded Mustard

1 tablespoon of plain flour

Dash (or more) of any white wine

Salt and pepper to taste

1 and 1/2 sheets puff pastry

egg wash for the pastry

heart shaped cookie cutter

Gently warm the leeks (careful not to burn them as they go bitter) then add chicken and bacon to brown.
Add the mushys cook them a little then add the wine and don't forget scrape all the goodness from the bottom of the pan as you stir. Let it simmer a little while the wine evaporates then add the flour, sour cream and mustards.
Add salt and pepper to taste
Simmer until sauce thickens
I like to add the spinach last so its not too soggy
Scrape everything into a pie dish and cover with the puff pastry
Use the cookie cutter and cut out lots of pretty hearts to decorate the top (you could skip this step but really where's the fun in that)
Cover in the egg wash
Place in the oven to cook for about 1/2 hour until warmed through and golden on top.

We usually have this with a lovely big salad

Boy it has gone so quickly - you are turning into such a delightful young girl.

At the moment craft is your thing - you spend all afternoon, cutting, sticking, pasting and drawing. Your creations surprise us - butterflies and presents and what ever else you can come up with.

You have been writing your name perfectly for most of the year and have now moved onto practising the rest of the alphabet. We have watched your drawings go from lines and circles to perfect little people in dresses with fingers, eyelashes, and matching jewellery. You love your friends - such a little social bunny. Even when your home alone you call them on your "iphone" to see how they are or you play elaborate games with Lucy your imaginary friend.

You have a sensitive little heart and you hate when I'm mad at you... it hurts my feelings you say.

You are a wonderful big sister and love to make Evie giggle.

You have developed a love for dresses, parties, princesses and all things pink.

Baby update

Little Miss Evie will be six months old next week - OMG how its flying!! She has just started solids and eats like she has been doing it forever. She is a big giggler but very impatient and bellows out for me constantly. She has been having major separation anxiety but secretly I'm kind of enjoying it. Second time round, I at least know this time doesn't really last that long.
What I did forget or perhaps block out were these EARLY morning starts ARGH! they are hard... I can't really complain though she will at least give me a good 7 hours - most nights.

I love watching her watch her sister. Those little peepers just follow her around the room and her face lights up when Louise talks to her.... That's by far the best.

Birthday craft and a new vase...

We are getting ready for someone's party here .... Lou is just a little excited and has been helping me get some decorations ready. We are being super original and going with a fairy theme - Fairy love kicked in a couple of months back and she is mad on them.

We've been making cupcake toppers, goodie bag fillers and a heap of decorations. Its been nice to do something together during Evie's nap time. I must remember to take some photos this year.

We kicked off party season this weekend with a fab party of a dear friend's little one on Saturday and on Sunday we celebrated the terrible Melbourne weather by going out for Lunch with some friends. We really wanted to eat at our new favourite place but it must be everyone else's favourite new place too because it was packed with a 20min wait, so we went here instead which was yummo. Oh and I bought this.... how cute!!

A new Ikea is about to open up on my side of the city and normally this wouldn't excite me that much but alas I'm stuck at home a lot with a new baby. Reading the newly arrived catalogue has been a great distraction from the amount of times I've been thrown up on this week.

Have you seen the new Woolworths iphone app? Its quite clever and I'm mighty impressed - iphone apps dont usually excite me much. The truth is Louise has more of her game apps on there than I have. But I am really loving this one - It has the easiest recipes on it, and a shopping list option that will tell you which isle your food is in at your local woollys. It has all the weekly specials listed and you can scan your items at home so you dont even have to type them in.

This is the Apple & Cinnamon tea cake - I was hoping to have more of the actual cake in the photo but it seemed to disappear before I could. I might have better luck with the Choc hazelnut oat biscuits.

My brothers gorgeous girlfriend is off back home to Ireland tomorrow so I thought this occasion deserved a special goodbye cake. Totally loving the mini buntings - they make a perfect cake topper. I've been wanting to try a layer cake for sometime now - this one is was especially yummy. Its Raspberry Ripple Vanilla Cake with Cream cheese Icing and a sneaky layer of crumbled chocolate Flake goodness.

My poor neglected blog .... Oh how I miss you. Most times I sit down to write post a little cry comes from the baby's room. Catnapping and blogs don't really mix I'm afraid.
However, Friday mornings is my little break from the ~~monster~~ preschooler so the house seems calmer and bubs can usually get a bigger nap. Today I indulged in a little crafting.... how cute is this?

I have a few to make but this was my first attempt. I'm sure it will look so much better sitting on the cake I am yet to make. It's about to be birthday season around here and you know how much I love birthday craft. Hopefully I will be able to get some decent posts this year.

I can't believe its already been 5 weeks since little Evie was born - boy time flies.

We are almost used to the new addition - I forgot how much time it takes to look after (and feed) a newborn. Although I shouldn't complain breast feeding has been so easy this time round and the sleep deprivation hasn't bothered me half as much (kind of :P)

Poor girl has to get carted around everywhere though - this is her being "decorated" by Louise and her friends at Kindy while I chatted away with the other mums.

Evie is still a novelty for Louise and I'm surprised that she hasn't yet asked to have her returned to the hospital.

No really she loves helping me look after her, especially at bath time.

Our newest creation arrived very quickly last week and all are doing well. We made it to the hospital with 40mins to spare - everything went so fast. With both girls I went into a little denial that I was actually labouring and this got me into a little trouble this time, seeing that she really wanted to be born on April 1st. I've been home for a couple of days now and slowly getting used to juggling two. Louise loves to "help" and is a great big sister.

I'm joining in with Claire's meme today ~ she has asked to give you peep into one special room around the house. Seeing as I have been meaning show you Lou's new bedroom for quite sometime, I thought this would be a great opportunity. With the impending arrival of a new bubs we had to convert the hubby's office into a pretty pink bedroom for Louise.

Now, as major renos "might" be in our near future - I really didn't want to go and spend a heap of money on a temporary room. We kept the previous carpet and blinds and just added a new paint colour, shelf and some pretty little extras.

Please excuse the crappy photo - our camera died so i have to rely on iphone quality.

Sunday Afternoon 4.30pm

With all the baking, cooking and cleaning I did this weekend, hopefully means that this baby may be arriving sooner than later.... that would be just lovely!!

I'm so ready to meet this little miss ~ although technically I haven't even packed yet so better get moving and perhaps I should enjoy some lovely full nights of

sleep for a little bit longer too.

We also managed to celebrate a friends 30th Saturday and sneak in a pub lunch with some fab friends on Sunday, finishing off a fine weekend..... how about you??

just been a little pre-occupied.

This baby suddenly feels (and looks) enormous and with 6 weeks left its all starting to feel like things are going to change soon. I finally found the motivation to get the babies room ready and began soaking, washing and folding the trillions of tiny clothes I somehow acquired with Louise.
I miss tinkering with my hairclips but every time I sit down to start getting creative my mind wanders and I usually end up sorting or cleaning or sleeping. I'm sure it will come back ~ I love making things.
Louise and I have been doing lots of "special" little outings - movies, lunches and walks through the park. As exciting as a new addition will be I hope I don't miss the one on one time I get with my little girl too much.

We're back...

Here is a few holiday snaps from our amazing holiday in Hamilton Island. What a stunning part of this fabulous country and The Great Barrier Reef ~ WOW!! We thoroughly enjoyed EVERY moment and Louise was in her element - pool, beach, friends, food and lots of laughs. I celebrated a Birthday there, held a baby Koala, ate amazing food (did not COOK for the whole week) and really, really relaxed. A highlight would definitely be the seaplane we took to the Great barrier reef and then dropped us on most beautiful beach I have ever seen to play for a while (truly a one in a lifetime dream moment).

Its so sad to come home and see the devastation mother nature has thrown Queensland and my heart and thoughts are with the people this is affecting as I type.

What a year you are going to be!

(Although quite hard to top a wonderful 2010)

This will be the year for.... meeting our new little girl, seeing Lou become a sister, pulling off the surprise of the century, watching friends get married, getting a babysitter more often, loosing this baby weight (but not stressing over it), holidaying and saving more....

I wonder what else you will bring?

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas ~ mine was relaxing but busy at the same time. Our little family are heading off to North Queensland for a fabulous little holiday in Hamilton Island and I'm so, so, so excited.

Every year we have a special afternoon tea with some lovely family friends ~ its so nice that our little girls can now enjoy it too. I set up their very own "high tea" table so they could be just like the adults...so cute!!

If you also look closely you can see a sneak peak of Lou's new Big girl room that I have been working hard on - once I get the correct mattress re-delivered (one that actually fits her new bedroom setting) Grrr... I can do a proper tour for you. Its turned out quite pretty

... if you like pink.

I also heard a rumor that a family of fairies are about to move in as well.

Sunday 28th Nov 10.30am

Argh!.. it rained the weekend away here in Melbourne - can't summer start already!! Although being almost six month pregnant now I'm sure I will eat those words come January. We braved the rain (and crowds and screaming children and equally grumpy parents) Sunday morning and headed to the Myer Christmas windows in the city. Louise loved them so I suppose that's what matters really. We then headed down to the Myer Santaland to check out the big man himself only to find he was hidden away in some Santa cave with a charge of $27 dollars and at least an hour waiting in line.

Needless to say Santa was having an "early lunch" when Lou asked where he was.

We treated ourselves to Chocolate croissants and yummy lattes at our favourite place instead.

Throw in a trip to Bunnings and Ikea and its suffice to say that we filled what would have been a boring weekend stuck inside.

We set off nice an early Sunday morning to make the trek out to beautiful Gembrook. It was finally time for Lou to do the ultimate in Kids Fun Runs -

The Kids Fun Run with Thomas!

Louise has been counting down the days for this event and woke up jumping to get there. It was so cute to see all kids get excited about racing Thomas, the seriousness in some parents was a tad scary though.

Thomas was nice enough to let us all aboard for a bit of a ride then we all enjoyed a lovely picnic lunch with the family - very special day indeed.

The month of November always marks a sad time for us - Nine years ago this month we suddenly lost my Dad and there still isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of him. He was such a great Dad, such a hard worker, he was caring, firm, gentle, honest and loved us all.

~Christmas Countdown~

Between Louise's Gym Creche and her Little Kinder there are quite a few teachers we have to buy for at Christmas. I always like to do something a little different than the usual chocolates or soap - being from the early learning profession myself - I can tell you there are only so many of these you can handle each year.
So staying true to the Handmade Christmas pledge, it was only fitting I head over to my favourite shopping site Made it - of course!

I was thrilled to find these gorgeous little purses from Odds and Blobs and purchased a number of them to hand out out Christmas. The only hard part was choosing the fabric styles!

Wow what a weekend!! Between new couch and coffee table shopping, 2 (yep 2) three year old birthday parties, a 15yr high school reunion, and dinner at my brothers brand new home to test out the pizza oven - I'm certainly tired.

Luckily it all ended with snuggles on the couch with some very special Aunties.

The weather gods were so kind this weekend and we are finally having some beautiful sunny spring Sundays. We spent the afternoon at our favourite city beach spot before heading into town for rooftop pizzas and a little dancing for Lou :)

Last year Lou always seemed a little apprehensive about walking up to the water but lately she has been nagging us to get back there. She couldn't wait to put her toes in the water and in the end she stripped off to her undies just so she could sit in the freezing salt water.

Looks like there will be lots of sunny Sundays spent here this year.

Baked by Mum!!

Nothing beats homemade cookies... right?

How about getting the smell and taste of homemade cookies that you don't even have to mix yourself... just take the dough out of the fridge, roll them to the size you want, then pop them into the oven and they are done! YUMMO!!

I met Danielle and her fabulous "Baked by Mum" Cookies at the Modish Creators Market and have been meaning to blog about them for ages. Such a great idea to have in the fridge, they are preservative free and they seriously taste fantastic. I love that the ingredients are actually real things such as butter, flour eggs etc and there are so many flavours to choose from.
The Trio Choc are my favourite - full of choc bits and oats just like I would want to make myself (if I could be bothered)... I also have packets of dark choc and cranberry and white choc and macadamia in my fridge waiting for the next set of visitors to pop in (so I can pretend I'm a supermum) and be able to offer fresh warm homemade cookies :)

Danielle and her fantastic Baked by Mum cookie dough will be at my favourite local farmers market tomorrow - so if your in the area - why not stop by... or they have a bigcartel shop to purchase from.
Psst... If even the idea of cooking them yourself seems a little tough there is also the option to purchase pre-baked ones as well.

We celebrated Louise's 3rd birthday in the glorious Melbourne sunshine yesterday - I'm shattered I didn't have a chance to take more photos.

I'm pretty sure she had a wonderful time...

All she wanted for her party was a Dora Cake - so "we" compromised and I made her Dora's Castle House... ~~yes I was up all night making that~~ it was a lot easier than I thought it would be :P

Saturday Afternoon 25th September 2010

Hi I'm back!!

I've just finished a 14 day work-a-thon (yep had to work the weekend too)- and kind of thankful its over. Most days I was up and out before the family woke and usually got home when then were all asleep - so it was pretty full on.

Lots of fun to see if the grass was greener but boy did I miss my little family. The hubby took some time off to look after Lou and whilst he said he enjoyed it - I think Lou really played up for him on the last couple of days.. I'm certainly not going to show you a photo of what my house looked like either..... So after what seemed like hours of cleaning on Saturday, I finally had some well deserved family time.

Gotta love a Grand Final BBQ - We spent our Saturday arvo with family and friends at the boys cricket club. Lou had her little friend Master J there so she was more than happy to run around and play. Seeing that it was a draw we may have to do it all over again next week..

It's Lou's birthday next week as well, so I'm now in Birthday organisation mode .......... better. get. cracking!!

Friday 3rd Sept 4.30pm 

So the hubby pulled a sicky and we spent a full 24hrs away just the too of us. We drove all of 25mins to get to our destination but boy it was so much. Its been ages since I spent some decent time in the city with my favourite friend and was so great to just walk around and soak it all up.
Our hotel was smack bang in the middle of town which was nice and handy as we wanted to fit as much as we could while we were child free.

Here are few of my other favourite snaps..

I forgot how wonderful Melbourne's lanes and street art was.

We spent a little time shopping of course although got a little distracted by these teenages on a stage solving the Rubiks cube in under 20 seconds

(a little dorky but so fascinating at the same time)

On the way home we stopped for a quick game of Bowling .....

I kicked his butt :)

So I couldn't get any snaps today :( but here is one I lifted from the Channel 10 site of... ME :) Yep - today a girlfriend and I got babysitters and went to be in the audience of The Circle - just for a little fun!

I really don't get to watch it all that often but find I am always having a great chuckle when I catch a bit here and there - what a funny show and It was so great to see behind the scenes. There are so many people involved and Chrissy, Gorgie, Yumi (hubbie's fav.) and Denise make it look all so effortless. Honestly if you get a chance to go - Do it... you will have a blast especially if you can fit in a child free lunch and walk around Chapel street as well.

An Award and a Feature Interview

My watch broke about three weeks ago and surprisingly have not really needed it.
My teenage (young) celeb crushes were the two Corey's - Corey Haim and Corey Feldman - Does that show my age??
I love to cook but hate following recipes.
I absolutely will not ever never eat my peas - hate them.
I can ride a MOTORBIKE - yep. When we were younger we had a farm and loved nothing more than to jump on the dirt bikes and speed off through the paddocks.
I cant see past my arm without my glasses. I hate my contacts and I really want to have the op but am way too chicken - Do you know that they put a scalpel in your eyeball?
Definitely prefer the Cupcake over the Macaroon any day!

Saturday 17th July 8pm

Its a teary week over here at our house, you see my baby brother is jetting off very soon to travel the world all by himself.

The United States, Mexico then all around Europe - I'm so excited for him. I remember so well that feeling of being young and about to explore the shores of other countries.

But I am also so sad for us staying home - I will miss him so much, not to mention how much hubby and Lou will too.

There will be Birthdays and Christmas that we won't spend together and there is no return date so we cant even count sleeps.

Saturday night he had a going away party - Everyone had so much fun together and Lou loved being around so many people who love her so much. She wandered around the pub like everyone was there for her. I don't where all that confidence comes from - certainly not her parents. I finally managed to convince her to go home with her Grandma - so that the hubby and I could have a night out with everyone.

So this post is dedicated to my youngest brother... Michael

Long time followers of the Lulufroufrou blog may remember my post from Lou's second birthday. Back in October we purchased this lovely cubby house for Louise. When I posted about it, I got a few enquiries as to where I got the kitchen and sink set inside from.
Well tonight I was "window shopping" at my favourite procrastination shopping website {Madeit - of course}- I found Lou's lovely kitchen back in stock!! Yay!
I must say we've had them for almost a year now and they are still going strong - Louise uses them all the time to cook lots of different cakes and copcorn as she puts it.

The fab creators had set off on a Aussie Outback Adventure soon after I purchased these lovelies - it seems their shop is up and running again though. Check them out here.

A Special Treat

The lovely folks at Kidspot Baby Club sent over a whole boxful of Johnson & Johnson products to test out and tell you all about them.
As you can see my little girl got right into them and had lots of fun opening the bottles and checking out how they smelt.
(After these photos were taken and while I wasn't watching I found her covering her own 'little baby' in one of the creams - Lou said she was making her dolly all pretty)

Now, a couple of the items are already regulars in this household - I have used both their babywipes and bedtime bath ever since Louise was born. The wipes for their texture, smell and size - LOVE THEM and the bedtime bath really does have a wonderfully soothing smell and leaves Lou's skin feeling so soft and clean.
I also have always LOVED the Baby Conditioning Shampoo - its got this nostalgic smell for me - my mum must have used on us, besides Lou HATES getting her hair washed so only having to go through the process once is a big plus for me.
I had never tried any of the soothing naturals range (the green bottles) and I ♥ a good moisturiser. I get dry skin in the Winter so I've kept these ones for me :) Its got a great smell, soaks in well without leaving you with that 'all greased up' feeling. The bottle is a nice size too, so fits into my handbag without feeling like I'm carrying a bowling ball around.

~Lets hope Lou's baby isn't too upset I've borrowed the creams~

~The girls and the city~

The girls in my family snuck into the city for a little girly R&R extending our weekend by an extra day. Just a little special... we spent it walking and shopping around town, eating yummy snacks and watching in-house movies LOVELY!!

A Precious Moment.....

Every Thursday morning we pack a yummy lunchbox and head down the street to our local Community Centre. This is where I leave Louise to play, paint, draw, run without me by her side. In the beginning, it took us a lot to get there - as she cried ... A LOT! The whole first term was painful and I nearly gave it up.

She would start pretty much by Monday saying "When is it Thursday - tomorrow? I don't want to go to Big Kinder"

I would drop her off and stand in the hallway and listen to her scream then step out of the building with this giant pit feeling in my stomach. I knew it would get better - it had to get better as it certainly couldn't get any worse.

Second Term has been a dream - she is happy to go now

and walks confidently through the door.

At the end of the day when I arrive to pick her up - she says the same thing everytime.

"Mummmeee - you came back" and I get a magical cuddle.

We walk around the room she shows me her friends, her artwork and what ever she has been playing with that day.

This is my precious loving moment because its everything I wanted and dreamed for her.

I want her to be confident and secure in herself, to not need me, to be able to develop her own relationships and to make choices on her own.
